Six Smart Tips For Warmth This Winter

Baby, it’s cold outside isn’t just a song – it’s a reality.

During the winter months, the cold penetrates the bones sometimes, and so you head into your house to capture as much warmth as possible to feel better. The trouble is that sometimes your home feels colder than the outside world – and this is where the trouble starts.

Your house is not supposed to be colder than the outside world, but there are plenty of things that you can do to be proactive and keep your home toasty.

With this in mind, here are some of the things that you can do to make your home efficient over the winter.

Not only will you be able to save money and make your home more energy efficient, you’re going to feel toastier! So, let’s see six tips you need for a warmer winter.

Add Plastic To The Windows.

It’s an age-old trick but it does work. If you cannot afford to replace all your windows with double glazing, consider adding plastic window treatments. It’s an effective way to keep the heat in and it’s cheap. You can do it with bubble wrap or cling film depending on what you have in the house.

Check Your Heaters.

If your house is cold, there is every chance that your heaters are not efficient. You need to consider that your heaters may not be working as well. Have you changed your furnace air filters lately? Have you cleaned the flue from the chimney? When was your last boiler upgrade?

All of these things need to be checked before you start switching on the heating for the season. You need to ensure that your heating system is working properly if you want to remain warm inside the house.

Clean The Vents.

The vents and radiators in your home have to be thoroughly cleaned. Not only could any dust be a fire hazard, you need things to work correctly and clogged vents prevent this. Removing the dust and blockage will help you to reduce your allergies, let the hot air flow better and you’ll feel warmer for it.

Close The Doors.

If you’re not using some of the rooms of the home, close the doors and keep the heat from travelling. If there are rooms in your home that you don’t use at all unless you have guests, shut off the heaters entirely and shut the doors. This will mean that the heat is directed to the right rooms of the house and not the ones that are uninhabited.

Use The Sunlight.

Sunlight is warm, you know this, and even in the dead of winter the sunlight is warm. When it’s pounding on the windows, you need to use it. Open the curtains and the blinds and let the light naturally warm the home. The moment the sun goes down, shut all the blinds and curtains again and keep that heat in!

Program Your Thermostat.

You need to keep the money low and the heating on, and programming your thermostat will help you to do it. With smart technology, you can use a thermostat that you keep up with even away from work. You can schedule temperature changes to suit your day.
