How To Create More Space In Your Home

We all want our homes to have more space, and feel lighter and more airy.

While there are some things that you can focus on to create the illusion of a bigger room, the best thing that you can do is follow these quick tips to actually expand your floor space. You’ll go from feeling like you’re in a 2 meter x 2 meter bedsit, to feeling like you own a suite at the Ritz. Well, hopefully. Read on if you want to know how to create a spacious and airy home.

Tip #1: Keep the furniture up high

Okay, there are some things that should be firmly on the floor (like your bed, please don’t try and attach this 4 feet above your floor) but there are some things that can be elevated to give you more floor space. This includes shelves; getting rid of your bookshelf in favor of shelves on the wall will create much more space than you had previously. This is the same with lampsorga and other pieces of furniture; if you can attach it to the wall, then doing so will make a real difference.

Tip #2: Use your rooms wisely

Yes, we all have rooms (like the boiler cupboard) that we just can’t utilize, right? Wrong. By installing propane underground in your garden, instead of having a boiler inside, you could have a whole new room in your house. And, well, you could use this for anything. Walk-in wardrobe anyone? Or even an en-suite. Whatever it is that you’ve been thinking of, having a whole new room is a great opportunity when it comes to space.

Tip #3: Declutter

The main cause of any room feeling as though it is small, and lacks space, is the fact that there is clutter everywhere. We get it, cleaning your house is not always how you want to spend a weekend. But you’ll thank yourself when you have a lot more space to work with, and you don’t have to spend hours dusting individual ornaments. Because who’s got time for that? Say hello to your brand new (and never seen before) floor space.

Tip #4: Use mirrors and light colors

The key to making your home seem more spacious, if you’ve tried all of the things above, is to use mirrors and light colors as focal points of your decor. Mirrors, if positioned correctly, will reflect light and create the illusion of a large and airy space. You can get them in a variety of shapes and sizes, to fit any room. Light colors, on the walls and for bedding, will also make your home seem a lot more light and airy, and in turn, spacious. Try these things out before you give up on making your home look bigger.

There are many ways that you can create more space (or the illusion of more space) in your home, so try out the tips above if you want to have the interiors you’ve always dreamed of. Keep the furniture up high, use your rooms wisely, and declutter your house. And if that doesn’t work, use mirrors and light colors. Good luck!
