What Makes The Perfect Living Room?

The living room is the place in the house that you go to relax and unwind, and you want the decoration to reflect this chilled-out vibe.

However, many people have a tendency of making their living rooms feel too stuffy and formal. You also want to add some personal elements into the interior that make it feel welcoming. But what makes the perfect living room? There are many factors which all add up to creating the environment that you are looking for.

Tip #1: Draw Inspiration from Magazines and Websites

The first thing to do is check out a variety of magazines and websites to find some inspiration about the different designs which may appeal to you. Don’t worry too much about expense at this point; you can always find budget-friendly ways of creating the design that you would like. You may want to create a scrapbook or Pinterest board of the living rooms which appeal to you.

Tip #2: Declutter Your Current Space

As much as possible, declutter your current space so that you have a blank canvas to work with. This provides you with a good opportunity to decide on the things that you want to keep and what you can afford to get rid of. When you know what you still have left to store, search for some storage systems to contain everything.

Tip #3: Decide on the Focal Point

Most living rooms have a clear focal point of the room. In many modern living rooms, the focal point ends up being the TV. But there are plenty of other choices which you could make including an architectural detail, a piece of art, or a fireplace. Start to think about how the rest of the room is going to be laid out. You want to make it easy for people to converse as well as navigate their way from one side of the room to the other.

Tip #4: Choose Your Furniture

Your furniture is likely to take up a big proportion of the space in your living room. When you are choosing which items to go in there, consider the size of the room. You don’t want to choose pieces which are going to be too big and take up all the space. Similarly, items which are too small are going to look out of place as well. You should also think about the style of the furniture. Are you going for a classic look or something a little more modern? If your answer is the latter, you could look into getting a contemporary looking loveseat. And when it comes to positioning the furniture, you should choose a place away from the walls. You don’t want your guests having to shout across the room to one another.

Tip #5: Shed Some Light on the Rooms

You don’t just want to have a single source of lighting in your living room space. Choose a couple of different options and you’ll have more of an opportunity to vary the mood as you would like. This will be handy when hosting different events such as a party or a romantic evening. You also don’t want to position the lighting right over people’s heads, as this can end up being too much like a spotlight on them.

Tip #6: Art and Accessories

Any artwork you decide to display in your living room should be positioned opposite the seating arrangement so that your guests can see it easily. And if you are planning on putting smaller accessories in there, it is worth remembering that they look better together in groups. It is a nice idea that any artwork and accessories in the room have a clear story and reason why you have chosen to display them in the first place. You don’t want to go overboard as this will end up bringing back the clutter that you wanted to get rid of in the first place.

Tip #7: A Burst of Color

Even if you have chosen a relatively plain design in your living room, you can still add a burst of color. Choose pillows, throws, artwork, and other similar items to create an accent. Adding this accent will liven things up a bit and add character to your living room.
