3 Ways To Reduce Your Impact On The Environment

The world is in trouble.

Every day when you turn on the news there are stories about how the oceans are swamped with plastic, how the rain forest is getting destroyed at increasing rates, and how we are heading for a climate disaster if we do not change the way that we are living right away. We have to reduce our impact on the environment!

Climate scientists all agree that the effects that our current lifestyles are having on the environment will lead us past the point of no return within the next few years. World leaders and businesses alike are very slowly waking up to this fact, and there is still a great deal of resistance to the change that we so desperately need.

The slow change from the powers that be mean that it must fall on all of us as individuals to take responsibility for the state of our irreplaceable planet before it is too late. That may mean making a few conscious changes within your life to do your bit to help.

Reduce Water Waste

While the world is seventy per cent water, only a very small fraction of that is drinkable. It is estimated by scientists that there will be a severe freshwater drought that will affect almost a third of the population within the next six years. With that in mind, reducing the amount of water you are using is vital in order to reduce our impact on the environment.

Clark tanks offer a solution that can help you reduce water by collecting rainwater that falls onto your roof. This can be used for watering your garden or even flushing toilets. There are many other ways that you can reduce your water usage though. Think about taking fewer baths, shorter showers, and turning off your taps when they are not in use.

More Considered Driving

Your driving habits will have an impact on the environment. Think about switching your car to a more environmentally friendly model when you next need to get a new one. Electric models are ideal, however hybrid cars, and cars with smaller engines are a step in the right direction.

Think about the journeys that you are making. If you can share the journey with someone who would have otherwise been driving separately, you should do this. If you are able to walk for shorter journeys, this will be helpful. And if you can cycle or use public transport then you will be cutting down the number of cars that are on the road.

Use Greener Energy

Many of the major energy providers are still reliant on coal to produce their electricity. This creates a substantial amount of pollution. Every time you leave your light on, it is burning coal and causing more C02 to enter the atmosphere.

There are many companies that now offer renewable energy. Try and find an alternative company to switch too that values the environment. Make sure and let your old company know the reason that they are losing customers is that they are not providing environmentally sound energy.
