Submerge

Submerge

Eyes closed, jaw clenched, pause;
Wait for your dangling feet to break the surface
as the splintering dock catches your jeans.
A warm breeze drifts above the cold water,
chills erupt on your arms that beg to push off the dock.
Liquid seeps between every toe,
the green light for your plunge.
Deep breath, you jump.
Sinking farther down, your bones turn to ice,
frozen to the bed in a blanket of shadows.
